Spinform Limited is a company with a proud family heritage, with the trade being passed down from father to son spanning over 3 generations and nearly 70 years. Edgar Neuberg started a Birmingham based metal spinning company in 1957 originally focussing on hollow-ware and lighting reflectors. Edgar sadly died unexpectedly in 1985 leaving son Clive aged 23 to run the family business.
Clive took a different approach and began investing in automatic CNC spinning machines as opposed to traditional hand spinning. Clive continued in the trade and running the company for 37 years, where he never stopped learning and perfecting the craft. Clive is now amongst the top PNC spinning programmers in the world. He still provides outcall programming services for other companies with automatic spinning machines, while also maintaining a close working relationship with Leifeld a German based manufacturer of CNC spinning machines.
In 2017 Clive introduced his son Elliott aged 18 into the world of metal spinning. Taking to it quickly Elliott spent years learning the different aspects and fields of Spinform, both on the shop floor and in the offices. Fast forward to today and Elliott is now running Spinform carrying on a proud legacy.
At Spinform, we offer a wide range of manufacturing services including CNC machining, CNC spinning, hand spinning, tool making, turning, milling, grinding, welding, press work, circle shearing, sheet shearing, powder coating, wet spray painting, and polishing, all carried out in house. We utilise all kinds of metal including; steel, aliminium, stainless steel, duplex, hastelloy, inconel, copper, brass and silver. Our team is dedicated to providing customized solutions to meet the unique needs of each client, working closely with other manufactures and metal finishers to do so. All heavy press tool work, anodising and plating are carried out by local sub contract suppliers. No matter the requirements for the job we can produce and deliver.
Spinform's fully trained engineers have been using automated machinery for metal spinning since 1985. We have mastered the use of CNC machines to produce highly accurate advanced components. It is a very sophisticated manufacturing method where multiple varying operations can be carried out in one program cycle. CNC stands for computer numerical control, whereas PNC stands for programmable numerical control. PNC spinning involves manually spinning a component using the machines joystick operated control panel, so that the computer software can monitor and copy its movements exactly. We can then alter the spindle speeds, pressure and feed movement across both the X and |Z axis to deliver a faster production cycle. Our experienced technicians then monitor the spinning to control any varying factors keeping components uniform to one another and within tolerance of drawing size.
Metal spinning by hand is a highly skilled art form. If you require complex, exact products in small production runs then you can expect excellent value for money by choosing our hand metal spinning service. All kinds of metal can be spun with careful control of the material thickness to meet requirement. The manual shaping and forming involved is perfect for artistic projects that require a gleaming finish. Hand spinning is also a great option for producing components out of very thin material.
At Spinform we design and develop our own tooling in-line with our clients bespoke requirements. By making tooling in house we are able to ensure it is fit exactly to our machinery allowing us to produce spinnings within tight tolerances and to the desired finish, while also reducing set up time and cost. We predominately produce tooling out of D2 steel, where it is vacuum hardened and then finished to size to negate any distortion. Not only do we craft our own tooling but we have been known to produce tooling for other manufactures who have automatic spinning machines.
Our press shop contains numerous fly presses most of which have a hydraulic conversion system allowing them to punch bigger blows and speeding up the handling time. We are able to pierce ancillary details into spinnings. All heavy press tool work is carried out off-site.
Our paint shop contains powder coating facilities. We are able to pre-treat components in house to deliver the highest quality coating. Powder is all purchased to orders, ensuring no contamination or decay in powder quality.
Polishing is all done by hand by our highly trained team of polishers. We have experience polishing Aliminium, Brass, Copper, Stainless Steel and Silver. Pre-treatment for components is all carried out in house. Components are always packaged immediately after polishing to prevent contamination and ensuring when they arrive to our customers the finish is immaculate.
